So with this opening, audiences have the basic idea of the story, which will be developed in the rest of the poem that is built upon the same basic idea. Thefirst line of this stanza begins with the name, Charles, who is the king of Franks and it is ent irely reserved for Charlemagne and his attributes. Thefirst attribute referring to Charles is ;the king; which could be simply taken as his title. But, just after that, the poet assigns another attribute, ;our great emperor;, to Charles. Although this second one seems to be very same as thefirst one atfirst glance, it means more than a title. At this point we have come to realize that the poet is also a Frank. Following a brief overview of the biased views surrounding American Indians, the translation of stereotypes into actual practices shall be analyzed in relation to the military. As Todorov (1984) explains, the earlier settlers had, either directly or indirectly, been pushed out of their native lands primarily because they simply did not fit in. Upon settling in the New World, they were determined to create a nation which reflected who they were and design a culture which echoed their values and promoted their social, economic, political and ideological worldviews. Within the context of this particular nation and culture building project, the American Indian functioned as an anomaly, an obstacle to the fulfilment of the stated. Benefits and disadvantages of branding In this article, I am going to introduce what is branding? Why does branding? and analyze both the advantage and disadvantage of branding. In addition, I will use some examples to support my critical viewpoint. First part, it introduces about what is brand, branding is a thing combine with our regular life, and how to recognize it. Second part, it elaborates some examples to support the analysis of the advantage of branding. The advantages can be explored from both company side and customer side. Third part, it will talking about the disadvantage, so I using some reference to support disadvantage. A definition for a brand has been shown in the Journal of Marketing Management by Professor Peter Doyle of Warwick University: A name, symbol, design, or some combination which identifies the product of a particular organization as having a substantial, differentiated advantage (OMally,1991,p. 107). Besides, company use branding as a tool to engage the customers buying their goods, also doing some promoting value, making some branding image, or attach consumers lifestyle (Rooney, 1995). On the other hand, customer use branding as a advantage to receive the benefits from the brands. As Ronny (1995) said that branding is a technique to build a sustainable, differential advantage by playing on the nature of human beings. Disadvantage: Obviously, branding, of cause, not only has advantages, but also disadvantages. In analysis above, the benefit for small company to merge a big company with famous brand is obvious. But it always is combined with high risk. Concentrating on economic benefit, market share and production capability, companies involved in merger and acquisition usually ignored divergence between different corporate cultures. Also, the new business line may not be appropriately melt into of their existing products categories. Whats worse, even the enterprise are constrained with limited financial resource to handle the merger and the following painful adjustment, which could be fatal to both companies in that merge case. The most well-known example is the convergence of BenQ and Siemens. BenQ has invested Siemens over six billion (EUR). But at the end of the investment, BenQ has announced the cessation of all investment for Siemens. Critical Complexity When I heard Mr. Sabol announce the topic for W131’s latest assignment, an exploratory essay, I was furious. Of a world of scintillating and fascinating topics, he picked â€Å"writing† as the subject of the class’s papers. Writing, of course, was not my favorite theme; I felt the topic had been so overused over the course of the semester that writing any more about it would be futile and destructive to any shred of creativity the class had left. Furthermore, I had expected to be allowed to explore the topics that interested me the most outside of class[d1] . Regardless of my expectations, I had been stuck with an assignment I didn’t want to do. I kept asking myself why on earth I should write about writing[d2] . For that matter, I didn’t understand what purpose it would serve. At first I just viewed the topic as a way to give W131 students more homework. Perhaps it was a way of cruel fate driving me over the edge of sanity. Maybe it was just a matter of giving Mr. Sabol what he wanted to hear from our exploratory papers, not a matter of free thinking and the true exploration of our external and internal worlds. However, a notion began nagging at the back of my mind – there had to be a better answer than the ones I had come up with before. They were answers to the problem that were born of frustration and impatience, not of careful thought and consideration. I decided then that, as simple and perhaps insignificant as my personal problems with the topic were, I needed to address them in some way. Addressing my problems with the assignment would make me take time to think critically about my dilemma and find the answers that could help me become more motivated with the topic[d3] . I felt it was the only way I could even begin my exploratory essay without pulling all my hair out. Of course I didn’t have the answer to my initial question yet – What’s the purpose behind writing about writing? Special Effects – Now it has been pointed out that our imagination has no limitations and special effects do so things that sound really good in books sometimes look quite ridiculous in movies. However, my imagination is limited by my sense of reality and so when a book has a car crash I see a little ding and a bit of broken glass, where as a movie will usually just blow the car up in a spectacular show of carnage.Logically I know the car probably wouldn’t blow up but watching it on the screen I c an go with it. Reading about it, I will usually tone it down. Action sequences – yes you can read action sequences but I find them quite dull. Particularly sword fights. Please do not describe everything single thrust and parry to me if you expect me to still be reading by the time the battle is over. However, in movies†¦ they define the show don’t tell theory. It is a lot more exciting to watch a sword fight than to read a blow by blow commentary on a sword fight.
